Patriots Sign Cam Newton to One Year Deal

Free agent and former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will get a chance to fill Tom Brady’s shoes. New England signed Newton to a one year, incentive laden contract to compete with the team’s fourth round draft pick in 2019, Jarrett Stidham, and veteran Bryan Hoyer for the starting job with the Patriots.

Newton played in only two games in 2019 due to injury, but three for almost 3400 yards and 24 touchdowns in 14 games in 2018. Injuries have been an issue in recent years for Newton, but if he’s healthy, the 2015 NFL Most Valuable Player should still be able to compete on a high level.

Here’s a link to some highlights from his 2015 MVP season.
