Ottawa Senators Want Fans to Stop Throwing Hamburgers on the Ice

Ottawa Senators rookie goalie Andrew Hammond is nicknamed “The Hamburglar” and has a picture of the McDonald’s character on his mask. Hammond is 14-0-1 as a starter and the Senators are the hottest team in the NHL, winning nine of 10 and seven in a row. In their enthusiasm, Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre fans have taken to tossing hamburgers on the ice.

Throwing anything onto the ice at a hockey game is a bad idea and against NHL safety policy, and the Senators are asking people to stop, including having two players, Erik Karlsson and Marc Methot, film a video in both English and French (this being Canada) politely asking them to stop.

An Ottawa food bank has suggested that instead of buying hamburgers and throwing them on the ice, fans take the money and donate it to a local food charity. Not a bad idea.
