Oklahoma State Upsets Baylor in Big 12 Tournament Semifinal

Big 12 regular season champion Baylor had never won a conference tournament title going into this year’s tourney, and as it turns out, they won’t win this one either. On March 12th, the second ranked Bears played #12 Oklahoma State in a semifinal, and lost to the Cowboys 83-74.

Oklahoma State freshman Cade Cunningham led the way with 25 points and sophomore Avery Anderson III added 20. The Cowboys led 35-30 at halftime, but the Bears led 65-60 with less than six minutes left in the second half before Oklahoma State put it away. The Cowboys hit 21 of 26 free throws. Oklahoma State (20-7) lost both regular season games against Baylor (22-2), but is now 3-0 in conference tournament action all time against the Bears.

Oklahoma State will face #13 Texas (18-7) March 13th in the conference tournament final. The Longhorns were set to play #11 Kansas in the other semifinal, but the Jayhawks withdrew from the tournament after a positive Covid test. Duke and Virginia withdrew from the ACC tournament for the same reason. Oklahoma State and Texas split their two regular season games.
