Number 1 Auburn Beats #2 Alabama in College Basketball

It isn’t too often when we get a matchup between the #1 ranked and #2 college basketball teams, but #2 Alabama hosted top ranked Auburn on February 15th. This was the first time a #1 and a #2 ranked team have met in SEC history.

Auburn got off to a 9-0 lead and never looked back as the Tigers beat the Crimson Tide 94-85. Alabama closed the gap to one point but never led in the contest. Johni Broome led Auburn (23-2, 11-1 in the SEC) with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Mark Sears led Alabama 21-4, 10-2) with 18 points. It was an impressive road win for Auburn. The two will face each other in their final regular season game on March 8th at Auburn, and of course a third meeting in the SEC Tournament is always a possibility.
