New York Jets Bring Back Darrelle Revis

Two years after trading away Darrelle Revis the New York Jets spent big bucks to bring the four time All-Pro back to New York. Revis, who played for the Jets from 2007-2012, signed a 5 year deal for a whopping $70 million, so they obviously wanted him back really badly.

The Jets had traded Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the 2012 season, and he signed a two year deal ( second year was an option year) with New England last season. Revis was part of New England’s Super Bowl winning team in 2014.

Revis was due $20 million in the option year of his contract, which the Patriots declined to pick up, perhaps thinking they could retain the 29 year old cornerback at a lesser salary (championship teams tend to have salary cap issues as they try to retain players who all want more money after winning). However, the Jets didn’t give that a chance to happen, signing Revis on March 10th, the first day of free agency. The Jets were just 4-12 last season, allowing 401 points, so the defense gets an immediate and needed upgrade. New York also is more than happy to take a shot at arch rival New England by taking back one of the best corners in football.
