Mika Zibanejad Scores Five Goals in Rangers Victory Over Capitals
New York Rangers center Mika Zibanejad scored five goals, including the winning goal in overtime, to lead the Rangers to a 6-5 victory over the Washington Capitals in Madison Square Garden on March 5th. He’s just the third Ranger to score five goals in one game, and the first since Mark Pavelich in 1983. Zibanejad has 38 goals for the season.
The Rangers improved to 36-24-4 (76 points). They are two points behind the New York Islanders for the final Wild Card in the NHL Eastern Conference. The Capitals got one point for the overtime loss, but the red hot Philadelphia Flyers moved into a tie for first in the Metropolitan Division with Washington after beating Carolina 4-1. The Capitals and Flyers have identical 40-20-7 records (87 points). Philadelphia has won eight in a row and nine of ten, including a victory over the Capitals on March 4th.
