Max Scherzer Returns, Mets Clinch Post Season Berth

New York Mets right hander Max Scherzer returned from his second stint on the injured list September 19th and put on an outstanding performance, pitching six perfect innings with nine strikeouts as the New York Mets beat the Brewers in Milwaukee 7-2. It was the 200th career victory for Scherzer, who has a record this season of 10-4 with a 2.15 ERA. He showed that he is more than ready for the post season.

And speaking of the post season, the win clinched a post season berth for the Mets, their first since 2016. The Mets (94-55) held a one game lead over the Atlanta Braves (92-55) at the end of play on September 19th. This race will no doubt go down to the wire. The Braves and Mets will play a three game set in Atlanta September 30th-October 2nd.

Also in playoff news, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros both won on September 19th and assured themselves of a first round bye in the playoffs. In the new 12 team playoff format (six from each league) the top two seeds in each league will get first round byes and will open their post seasons in the Division Series
