Lolo Jones Gives Bobsledding a Try

With winter fast approaching, Olympic hurdler Lolo Jones has decided to try something new.  Jones, who finished fourth in the hurdles at the London Olympics, is trying out for the women’s two person bobsled team.  She was among a group of track athletes who were invited to Lake Placid, N.Y. to try out for the U.S. national team.  The thinking is that strong legged sprinter and hurdlers are naturals for push starting a bobsled.

Jones and her race partner and sled pilot Jazmine Fenlator were second after the first day’s competition, proving this is no gimmick.  It’s possible Jones could make the World Cup team.

It’s not unheard of for Olympic hurdlers to make a successful transition to bobsledding.

American hurdler Edwin Moses, who won three Olympic medals in a stellar track career in the ‘70s and ‘80s, took up bobsledding in the early ‘90s.  He won a bronze medal in a World Cup event in 1990.

It seems like most posts and articles about Jones mention her admission last summer that she’s still a virgin at age 29, but we won’t pander to that element.  Oops.
