Lance Armstrong Admits Doping (Finally) to Oprah Winfrey

In what he probably thinks is the first step in a cleansing process, Lance Armstrong sat down with Oprah Winfrey and admitted that after years of lying and denying, he really did use performance enhancing drugs when he was winning those seven Tour de France titles.   It turns out that the damaging report issued by the U.S. Anti Doping Agency showing that Armstrong would stop at nothing to win races was true after all.

Armstrong has been accused of being the kingpin of an organization dedicated to the Success of Lance Armstrong At Any Price.  The Organization included doctors, coaches, and hapless teammates who were caught up in the illegal activities.  The Organization also threatened and intimidated team members into remaining silent about illegal activities.  The Sopranos would be proud.

It has all come crashing down after he was given a lifetime ban from the after the USADA report last year.  He lost his endorsements and sponsors; his Livestrong Charity that has done much good work raising money in the battle against cancer has taken some collateral damage.  Now that he can’t lie his way out anymore, he has come out seeking absolution from Oprah, and rumors are he may point the finger at others who were involved in doping, not to clear his conscience, but to get his lifetime ban reduced.

Of course, Armstrong isn’t the only one in bicycle racing tainted by PEDs.  Part of the reason Armstrong became involved in PEDs was because their use was so widespread that it was  impossible to compete against the other cheaters.  The Tour de France people didn’t even bother awarding Armstrong’s revoked titles to anyone else, because they didn’t know who was clean and who wasn’t.  With such universal corruption in both the athletes and their handlers, the sport is as phony as a three dollar bill.

As for Oprah, she is only too thrilled to get what she calls the “biggest interview’ of her career, in terms of exposure, and urges you to look up her OWN channel on her website if you don’t know where it is, so you won’t miss it. “I can only say I was satisfied with the answers,” Oprah said.
