Kim Jung-Un Haircut

The Korea Times reports that a state-ordered “fashion guideline” was issued in North Korea about 2 weeks ago “requiring” North Korean university students to get their hair cut in the same style as their leader.

Kim Jong-Un haircut

One person is quoted as telling Radio Free Asia that not everyone is thrilled about it: “Our leader’s haircut is very particular, if you will. It doesn’t always go with everyone since everyone has different face and head shapes.”

As you can see in the photo, the sides of Kim Jong-Un’s head are shaved but from a profile, he appears to have some hair on the back of his head.

From the Korean Times, the story took on a life of its own to the point where some news sites are reporting that the order came directly from North Korea’s supreme leader, Kim Jong-Un and is applicable to all men in the country. Radio Free Asia’s original report, however, says:

“The instruction for male students to get the same haircut as their leader is not based on any directive from Kim but on a recommendation from the ruling Workers’ Party, according to a North Korean from North Hamgyong province near the border with China.”

It seems pretty peculiar that Kim Jong-Un would want all the students to wear their hair the same way he does. You would think it would be the other way around. He would want a unique style all his own.

The report also mentions a list of approved hairstyles from a couple of years ago, 10 for men and 18 for women. However, strange it may sound to some, it still is within the realm of possibility. Iceland, for example, has a list of approved names for babies. If you want to name your kid something that is not on the list, you have to get court approval.
