It’s Johnny Lee, Brooks

KHOU Houston weatherman, Brooks Garner forgot the name of the singer of the 1980 hit song, “Lookin’ for Love,” on the air tonight, but we suppose that’s not as bad as the two other anchors who thought the song was by Mickey Gilley.

The topic came up when they were reporting on the case of a runaway turtle, whose owners thought was lost. It turned out the turtle had journeyed to a neighbor who owned a potential mate. News anchor, Len Cannon quipped that the turtle was looking for love in all the right places. Brooks Garner laughed and said it just so happened that the singer of the song he referenced was appearing at the Fort Bend County Fair this weekend. Len Cannon and co-anchor, Shern-Min Chow thought Brooks meant Mickey Gilley, but Brooks said “No, Gilley didn’t sing it. It was the other guy. I can’t remember his name.” Well, Brooks is kind of young.

The singer is Johnny Lee, who also performed his song in the movie, Urban Cowboy, providing the most memorable song on the soundtrack because it exemplified the romance between the two main characters, Bud and Sissy, portrayed by John Travolta and Debra Winger. Charlie Daniels and Mickey Gilley were also in the movie.

Dallas fans also know that Johnny Lee was the first husband of Charlene Tilton, who played vixen Lucy Ewing in the night time 80s soap opera. Johnny and Charlene have a daughter named Cherish who is now an actress.
