Dick Van Dyke Wows ‘Em at Denny’s

That irrepressible multi-talented 90-year-old living legend Dick Van Dyke brought a sample of the contagious joy he loves to spread to breakfast at a local Denny’s in Los Angeles, much to the delight of the customers.

Van Dyke and his quartet, the Vantastix, stopped off at Denny’s after a visit to “Good Day LA” last Friday to promote their upcoming show in Cerritos, Van Dyke’s book “Keep Moving: And Other Tips and Truths About Aging”, and their album “Put On A Happy Face”. They broke into an impromptu rendition of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and customers broke out their cell phones to capture that very special treat.

We’ve always been in awe of Van Dyke’s incredible talents, and speaking of “Put on a Happy Face,” that song comes from “Bye Bye Birdie” our favorite Dick Van Dyke film.

We’re also very partial to “Chim Chim Cher-ee” from “Mary Poppins”

Hi there! Haven’t forgotten to check out your sites once in a while. I love Dick Van Dyke, too. I didn’t know for a LONG time that he was very involved with the Civil Rights Movement. I only learned that a very few years ago when he was on Tavis Smiley!

And he looks great and is singing great for being 90. You go, sir 🙂

Hi Stella. So glad you stopped by! Yes, I agree that Dick Van Dyke looks great and it’s great how he well he carries a tune. A rare gift. Watching that reminded me of Perry Como’s last Christmas concert. Poor Perry lost his great voice towards the end and the thing that always struck me was Perry never smoked or drank.

Dick Van Dyke struggled with alcoholism for a good number of years and he smoked too. The Telegraph has an interview from about 3 years ago where he talks about it.
