Italy’s Frederica Brignone Wins Her 2nd Gold Medal in 2026 Winter Olympics

On April 3rd, 2025, Italian Alpine Skier Frederica Brignone suffered a serious leg injury in a crash in the giant slalom of the Italian ski championships. The injury include multiple fractures and a torn ACL. Brignone had won a silver and two bronze medals in previous Olympics, but it was questionable if she could recover in time to compete in the games in her home country in 2026.

The 35 year old who has 37 wins and 85 podiums in 19 World Cup seasons in addition to those Olympic medals, answered that question by winning the gold in the women’s super-G on February 12th. She put an exclamation point on it by winning her second gold of the games with a victory in the giant slalom on February 15th. Brignone says she still feels pain from the injuries, but powered through for her best Olympics ever.

Speaking of best Olympics ever, the Italy had 22 medals after competition of February 15th, which is a record haul for the country in the Winter Games.
