Houston Astros Win 10th Straight

As the baseball season moves into its second month, let us celebrate the best team in the American League in the first month of 2015, the Houston Astros. You read that right. The same Houston Astros who lost over 100 games three years in a row from 2011-2013, including 111 in 2013, were leading the A. L. West with record of 18-7, which was also the best in the league.

On May 3rd, the Astros beat the Seattle Mariners 7-6 thanks to two home runs by Evan Gattis. It was the 10th win in a row by Houston.

There aren’t a lot of household names on the Astros– at least not yet– but their best player should be. Last season, second baseman Jose Altuve, all 5’6″ of him, won the A.L. batting title with a .341 average. He also led the league in hits (225) and stolen bases (56). He’s hitting .361 so far this season. It’s still early, but Houston is well on its way to surpassing last season’s 70-92 record. Whether or not they have enough to make it to the post season remains to be seen but they are out of the abyss and finally headed in the right direction.
