Golden State Wins Big Over San Antonio

The two teams with the best records in the NBA played each other for the first time in the 2015-16 season on January 25th. The Golden State Warriors (40-4) hosted the San Antonio Spurs (38-6) in a matchup of the last two NBA champions. In the past, the Spurs have been a difficult opponent for both the Warriors and last year’s MVP, Stephen Curry.

Not this time. Curry poured in 37 points to lead all scorers as the Warriors demolished the Spurs 120-90. Six Warriors scored in double figures. The Spurs were without Tim Duncan, who was inactive for the game with some knee soreness, but it would have made little difference as Golden State is on a roll right now. Since losing to the Detroit Pistons on January 16th, Golden State has won at Cleveland by 34 points, at Chicago by 31, and at home by 12 over Indiana in addition to this 30 point victory over San Antonio. Curry is having another MVP caliber season and Golden State is making a run at the Chicago Bulls’ record of 72 regular season victories, set in the 1995-96 season.

The Warriors and Spurs, who may very well meet in the Western Conference finals, have three more regular season games against each other. They’ll be in San Antonio on March 19th and April 10th, and in Oakland on April 7th.
