Golden Knights Score Three Times in 3rd Period to Beat Avalanche
The Vegas Golden Knights are in the driver’s seat in their Western Conference Finals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. After taking Game 1 with a 4-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche in Denver on May 20th, Vegas followed that up with a 3-1 victory in Game 2 on May 22nd. The Golden Knights have a 2-0 lead in the series, and history is on their side; road teams that have taken a 2-0 lead in NHL conference finals have won all 13 times this has happened, going back to 1982.
Ross Colton scored for Colorado in the first period to give the Avalanche a 1-0 lead, which held up into the third period. Jack Eichel and Ivan Barbashev each scored in quick succession in the third period and the Golden Knights took the lead. Barbashev scored a late empty netter to make the final score 3-1. Barbashev had a three point game, getting an assist on Eichel’s goal. Carter Hart saved 29 of 30 shots.
The Avalanche will try to regroup in Game 3 on May 24th. There is one ray of hope for Colorado; the Avalanche took two of the three regular season games against the Golden Knights, and both wins were in Las Vegas.
