Foul Ball Fatal to Order of Nachos

This baseball season, there have been some unfortunate incidents of people in the stands getting hit by foul balls, and in one case, part of a broken bat, and getting seriously injured. Some voices out there are calling for expansion of the screens behind home plate to cover more areas that are prone to line drives. Even if one is paying attention, it’s hard to get out of the way of a screaming liner or even a hard hit bouncing foul ball. And sometimes, there are consequences other than personal injury.

Here’s a case in point. At the San Diego Padres—Texas Rangers game on September 1st, San Diego’s Will Venable hit a bouncing foul ball that took dead aim at a fan’s order of nachos.

By the way, the Rangers won 8-6 and pulled to within three games of the Houston Astros in the American League West race. Houston lost to Seattle 7-5.
