Flyers Eliminate Penguins From Playoffs With Overtime Victory
The Philadelphia Flyers got off to a 3-0 start in their first round Stanley Cup playoff series with Pittsburgh, but the Penguins made it interesting by winning the next two games. There have only been five instances of teams winning a series after trailing 3-0. This series will not be the sixth.
There was no score at the end of regulation, and it went into overtime. At 17:32 of overtime, Philadelphia’s Cam York scored on a wrist shot to seal the 1-0 victory and the series four games to two. The goal tending was excellent on both sides, with the Flyers’ Dan Vlader making 42 saves and Arturs Silovs saving 31 for Pittsburgh.
Philadelphia will play Carolina in the second round. The Hurricanes are the top seed in the Eastern Conference, and swept Ottawa in their first round series. But the Flyers have played well against the Hurricanes this season; Philadelphia and Carolina played four times during the regular season, with all four games going to overtime. Carolina took three of the four.
