Flames Beat Jets 3-1 for 10th Straight Victory

Elias Lindholm scored with 47 seconds left in the third period to lead the Calgary Flames to a 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets in Calgary on February 21st. The Flames closed it out with an empty net goal by Tyler Toffoli and won a franchise tying record 10th straight game.

Calgary improved to 30-13-6 (66 points) on the season, good for 1st place in the Pacific Division, and led second place Vegas by four points at the conclusion of play on the 21st. That point total is second best in the Western Conference, behind Colorado’s 76.

Flames goalie Jacob Markstrom ha 22 saves in the win, and is 23-10-5 on the season, with a 2.06 goals against average and .928 save percentage. Those numbers are among the leaders in NHL goaltending; Markstrom does the lead the league with eight shutouts. The Flames’ goaltending has been a big factor in their success; they lead the league with a 2.33 goals against average and 10 shutouts.

The Flames have been pretty good at putting the goal in the net, too. Johnny Gaudreau (20 goals, 44 assists), Matthew Tkachuk (24, 32), Andrew Mangiapane (25, 9), and Lindholm (23, 26) lead the team on offense.

Calgary will get a chance to win its 11th straight game at Vancouver on February 24th.
