Yup I was speculating along similar lines a while back, though I was looking at different info.

VJ, thanks for the week’s recap. I noticed that each day a female won. As the father of 2 daughters I got curious and asked them why they thought this happened. They just shrugged their shoulders and said “Dad we are smarter.” I wasn’t so eager to accept that explanation from 2 holders of doctorate degrees and set out to find some facts of my own to explain this trend on Jeopardy.

First stop? Bureau of Labor Statistics. It turns out the BLS had released a report earlier this year that gave some statistical data on age 27 in the United States workforce. The report stated that 32% of women had completed college and 24% of men had completed college at this age. The report further stated that 70% of women had completed some college and 61% of men had completed some college at this age.

Second stop? A Stanford University study along with the Pew Research Center stated that by year 2006 more women had completed college degrees than males at all levels of college including doctorate degrees for the first time in education history.

Third stop? J Archive. On the day that Jesse Yu appeared on Jeopardy I explored the Science
category responses. Jesse who has visited us on this website can verify if my statement to follow is correct or not. Also, the video for that day June 25, 2014 is on youtube. In the category of Science he got 2 responses correct, Jennifer got one clue correct, and Alana got two clues correct.

Having completed my findings, I called my daughters and apologized. I am from the old school where males dominated. Heck, even when I attended Stuy it was an all male H.S. emphasizing math and science.
Now it is co-ed and I appreciated Jesse’s update. I guess I must acknowledge that times have changed and must anticipate seeing more females winning on Jeopardy. In my opinion, this is good news. Time waits for no one and times do change. There is a definite paradigm shift in place.
