Elizabeth finished in the lead with $7,600. Morgan was second with $2,000 and Rob was last at negative $600. All clues were shown. After the commercial break, Rob was awarded $2,000 on a reversal (see below). He was still in last place, but Rob now had $1,400 on the plus side.

Round 2 Categories: Physiology – Super Troupers – Mailed It! – What Could It “B”? – Fun & Games – Phrases & Idioms

RFD, short for this, began in 1896; previously, about 65% of Americans lived in the “R” area & had to pick up mail at the P.O. show

Rob got the last Daily Double in “Physiology” under the $1,200 clue with 6 clues left after it. He was in second place with $8,600, $400 less than Elizabeth’s lead. Rob bet $2,000 and he was RIGHT.

The superior “this” brings blood from the head, neck, arms, and chest to the heart, specifically to the right atrium. show

Rob finished in the lead with $9,800. Elizabeth was second with $9,400 and Morgan was last with $5,200. All clues were shown.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS PUERTO RICO?

Islands in the Greater Antilles include Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Puerto Rico (USA) and the Cayman Islands (UK). The Caymans don’t fit the size mentioned in the clue at all so only Puerto Rico fits the geographic part of the clue.

Historically, Puerto Rico was a Spanish colony from the 15th century until the end of the 19th century, when Spain ceded Puerto Rico, the Philippines and Guam to the USA under the 1898 Treaty of Paris that ended the Spanish-American War. The Library of Congress blog has a 2017 article detailing Puerto Rico’s history as a U.S. territory.

Morgan went with Martinique. She lost $4,200 and finished with $1,000.

Elizabeth had Cuba. That cost her $7,000 and left her with $2,400.

Rob got it right. He bet $9,001 and won the match with $18,801. Rob Kim will join Deanna Bolio in the finals.

Final Jeopardy (9/19/2023) Rob Kim, Morgan Halvorsen, Elizabeth Devereaux

Reversal: FOWL PLAY ($1000) Something easily done is said to be this “shoot”, which does seem less than sporting – Rob’s “duck shoot” response was initially rejected in favor of “turkey shoot”. He got a thumbs up from the judges at the end of the round.

A triple stumper from each round:

MAY DAY! MAY DAY! ($800) May 1, 1218: Rudolf I, the first German king of this royal house, is born

WHAT COULD IT “B”? ($2000) He’s the 18th century author of the farce “The Barber of Seville” & the comedy “The Marriage of Figaro”

Amazing how they got through both boards with all the stumpers and wrong responses. Ken does keep it moving, though. FJ was obvious only after I learned the correct answer; I lamely said Antigua. I thought the Antilles were just above South America. Maybe I’m thinking of the Lesser Antilles or Netherlands Antilles.

Not the sharpest knives in the drawer tonight. The anagrams were embarrassing. The bid taker was obvious, as was postnatal practitioner.
They all were, in reality. How someone got “OB/GYN” out of that last one, I’ll never know. What I did know was the German royal house, the Austen two-word phrase, and the board game of India.

My fellow Portlander came back strong from his minus $2K beginning.

Elizabeth should have won if she didn’t bet very big on that Daily Double and if Rob was incorrect and would have lost a lot of money in Final Jeopardy!.

And, moreover, Elizabeth and Morgan forgot their phrasing several times.

I thought Rob was going nowhere. Good on him to bounce back. And, he made the only good wager for Final.

Wow, a couple of contestants again missed the FJ. Actually, Puerto Rico was a no brainer. Anyways, one couldn’t help but notice the sheer number of stumpers in today’s game. I mean, I lost count as to how many times the buzzer rang in, and I was only surprised that Ken Jennings still managed to keep a straight face through it all.
