WHO IS PRINCE ALBERT?

Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert, is the only royal consort in British history to be given the title of Prince Consort. Although Queen Victoria wanted to grant Albert the title of King Consort, she was advised against it. Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, Prince Philip, was made a Prince of the United Kingdom in 1957 but never given the title Prince Consort. British custom in bestowing titles is a very complicated affair. However, Wikipedia’s List of British Royal Consorts may be helpful in unraveling the whys and wherefores of the whole consort thing.

While Prince Albert and Prince Philip did not have the Prince Consort title in common, one thing they had in common was a true love match with their wives. Albert and Victoria were married for 21 years, from 1840 to 1861, when Albert died at age 46. Queen Victoria survived her husband by 40 years, never to remarry. Philip and Elizabeth II were married for almost 74 years from 1947 until his death at age 99 in 2021. Queen Elizabeth survived her husband by almost a year and a half.

Justin thought it was George V, who was King of England from 1910 to 1936. He lost his $1,500 bet and finished with $9,500.

Luigi got it right. He bet $15,699 and nearly doubled his score to $31,399.

April also got it right. She only bet $1,801 to finish with $18,401. That meant that Luigi remained champ with a 3-day total of $97,200.

Final Jeopardy (9/13/2022) Luigi de Guzman, April Marquet, Justin Tarbox

Reversal: NEW TO THE OED ($600) Term for an official document certifying one’s inoculation status, perhaps for travel – Justin responded with “vaccination passport” and Ken accepted that. The judges didn’t like it because the entry in the OED is “vaccine passport” so Justin was docked $1200.

A triple stumper from each round:

ALPHABETICALLY NEXT ($600) As President: Carter, Cleveland…

FULL OF HOLES ($1600) His children’s book “Holes” earned him a 1999 Newbery Medal
