Final Jeopardy: Movie Music (7-7-25)
The Final Jeopardy question (7/7/2025) in the category “Movie Music” was:
The last 2 Best Song Oscar winners whose titles were the same name as the movie they were in had this man in the leading role
2x champ Scott Riccardi, an engineer from Somerville, NJ, won $68,000 last week. In Game 3, is up against: Ashley Caval Curto, a tutor & bowling alley attendant from Weymouth, MA; and Vince Carter, a lawyer from South Pasadena, CA.

Scott found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “‘Water’-y Responses” under the $800 clue on the 8th pick of the round. He was in the lead with $2,200, $800 more than Ashley in second place. Scott bet everything and he was RIGHT.
Sort of like “between the devil & the deep blue sea”, this phrase with 2 not-great options means “no matter what” show
Scott finished in the lead with $8,800. Vince was second with $4,800 and Ashley was last with $3,200. All clues were shown.
Round 2 Categories: They Won the Battle – 20th Century Lit – TV Tough Customers – Some Econ – Potato Science – Oh “M.G.”
Scott found the first Daily Double in “20th Century Lit” under the $2,000 clue on the 8th pick of the round. He was in the lead with $13,200, $5,600 more than Vince in second place. Scott bet $5,000 and he was RIGHT.
Chapter I of Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged” begins with this famous 4-word question show
Ashley got the last Daily Double in “Some Econ” under the $2,000 clue on the 18th pick of the round. She was in last place with $8,400, $11,400 less than Scott’s lead. Ashley bet $4,000 and she was RIGHT.
Milton Friedman held that this portmanteau that hit the U.S. economy in the 1970s marked the end of “Naive Keynesianism” show
Scott finished in the lead with a runaway $25,000. Vince was second with $12,400 and Ashley was last with $11,600. All clues were shown. Before the commercial, Vince was awarded $1,600 on a reversal (see below). His score rose to $14,000 and Scott no longer had a runaway.
TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHO IS DANIEL CRAIG?
3 James Bond theme songs have won Best Original Song at the Academy Awards, although 6 were nominated. Unless otherwise indicated, the film had the same name as the song.
1. “Live and Let Die” (1973)
(Best Song: The Way We Were”)
2. “Nobody Does It Better” (1977)
Movie: The Spy Who Loved Me
(Best Song: You Light Up My Life)
3. “For Your Eyes Only” (1981)
(Best Song: “Arthur’s Theme”)
4. “Skyfall” (2012)
5. “Writing”s on the Wall” (2015)
Movie: Spectre
6. “No Time to Die”(2021)
Only the last 3 songs won the Oscar. Daniel Craig played James Bond in all 3 but only #4 and #6 fit the ‘same name as the movie’ part of the clue.
Other notes: Roger Moore played Bond in the first 3 films. The Best Original Song Oscar goes to the songwriters (composers & lyricists).
Ashley didn’t quite finish Timothée Chalamet. She lost her $7,400 bet and finished with $4,200.
Vince got it right. He bet $11,001 and finished with $25,001.
Scott also got it right. He bet $3,001 and won the game with $28,001. That gives Scott a 3-day total of $96,001.

Reversal: SOME ECON ($800) In 2024 this measure of the difference in value of imports to exports was $918 billion for the U.S., up 17% from the year before – Vince’s response of “trade balance” was initially rejected and Scott got it with “trade deficit.” The judges reversed in Vince’s favor right after DJ!, putting him back in contention in FJ!
A triple stumper from each round:
ON YOUR LEFT ($800) Of Suffolk County, New York: This county whose coliseum is now run by Las Vegas Sands
OH “M.G.” ($2000) It’s one of the most iconic attractions in Juneau and the highlight of many an Alaskan cruise
2 years ago: Only ONE of the players got this FJ in “ART HISTORY”
At the 1865 Paris Art Salon, the elder of these 2 men said if the younger were successful, it would be “because his name sounds like mine” show

I was 2/3 on DD. I thought the first was “rock and a hard place”. However, I do really wish that Scott had just said “Who is John Galt?”, as that is a question, like “”Who can it be now?” or “What’s eating Gilbert Grape?”
In any case, a good game. I think they threw Vince a bone with “trade balance”, really. I know it’s”the fallacy of anecdote”, but, I’ve strictly only heard “trade deficit”.
I typed are trade deficit and trade balance the same thing in the chrome browser and the answer I got back was no.
P.S. that photo of Richie Aprile was just before he went to the big pizzeria in the sky
Upon reflection, I now think “trade imbalance” was the proper synonym.
What a terrific game! Strong players, no dumb answers, a few stumpers. They answered so many clues that I blanked on. Although my answer on that reversal was “trade deficit,” I was outraged when Vince was dinged for “trade balance.” Glad they righted that wrong, and I thought Vince would win when he got Final correct. Scott is impressive; one of those 20-somethings (like Mattea and others) who have such breadth of knowledge.
Final and the last two DDs did me in. I saw both Bond films but that didn’t help. I love the “Skyfall” song (Adele). Got the NY county (my sis lives there), Steinbeck book, Vera Farmiga show, revenue blank. Hard to believe only one of 3 got that FJ from two years ago–what a gimme!
Yes, I had forgotten about that 2 years ago clue. I was so surprised at the results, I had to go see what happened!
In your explanation of the answer, you stated that, of the 3 recent Bond movie songs that won Oscars, only #4 and #5 fit the clue. It’s actually #4 and #6.
Thanks, jk! That’s what I meant to type. It’s fixed!
