The Final Jeopardy question (7/2/2025) in the category “Men of Medicine” was:

Stephanie found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Isn’t It Iconic?” under the $800 clue on the 13th pick of the round. She was in second place with $2,400, $200 less than Jeff’s lead. Stephanie bet $1,000 and she was RIGHT.

Britannica noted the image of this man who died in Bolivia in 1967 “became an icon of leftist radicalism and anti-imperialism” show

Jeff found the first Daily Double in “-ology” under the $1,200 clue on the 13th pick. He was in second place with $9,600 now, $400 less than Jason’s lead. Jeff bet $4,000 and he was RIGHT.

Dating from the early 20th century, this 2-word phrase refers to a suggestion intended to get someone to do the opposite show

Jeff uncovered the last Daily Double in “Historical Shark Tank” under the $1,600 clue on his next pick. In the lead with $13,600, he had $3,600 more than Jason in second place. Jeff decided to tempt fate and bet $4,000 again. He couldn’t come up with a guess so he was WRONG.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS OLIVER SACKS?

Oliver Sacks (1933-2015) was a British neurologist and best-selling author, writing non-fiction books with case histories in his field. The New York Times called him “the poet laureate of medicine.” In Sacks’ own words, his 1985 book “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat” is a collection of true stories “about patients with a great range of neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions, written in a lighter, more informal style” than he had ever used before. Sacks and his publisher were greatly surprised that the book “hit some nerve in the reading public, and became an instant best-seller.”

The Oliver Sacks Foundation’s website has a lot more info, including a BBC podcast interview with Oliver Sacks, and info on his other books.

Stefanie was going for Dr. Dolittle, but only got as far as “Do”. That didn’t cost her a farthing so her score remained $4,800.

Jeff got it right. He bet $3,599 and finished with $16,799.

Jason got it right, too, albeit he spelled it with an extra “c”. He bet the farm and doubled his score to $26,400. So after 13 games with a new champ every day, Jason becomes a 2-day champ with combined winnings of $48,801.

Jason spelled it with an extra c and h instead of k. Im not sure how thats ok

    • VJ says:

They go by pronunciation, Rob. It’s accepted whenever the wrong spelling results in the same pronunciation as the correct spelling. They would have accepted Sax, for example, but not Zax.

  2. Jason says:

I noticed something about Jason – he seems to rely too much on the “ring in first, then try to come up with the response”. For me, it’s not as annoying as when Ben Chan would drawwww it out when he wasn’t sure, but it is still noticeable.

2)3 on DD, and got FJ. In fact, I had the book!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Howard! I might go more for a benzo, like Valium, before opiates!

And, go me! No automated moderation today!!

  3. Howard says:

I thought Jeff might go all-in, but he actually wagered the amount he needed to lock out Stepanie if she bet it all and got it right, and he missed. Had he nailed the 3rd DD, he likely would have won. Instead of playing for a possible tie, he was banking on Jason going big and getting FJ wrong.

I thought all 3 DDs were lead pipe cinches. Stephanie shocked herself when she got the first one right. Final stumped me, though. I was not at all familiar with that book.

Dr. Jason of NY, please prescribe me some opioids to deal with the pain Jeopardy Jason inflicted on me (and himself) tonight. Even before his two phrasing flubs, he provided several dumbass answers. And didn’t he say “Willie Nelson” last night instead of the actress who played Annie Oakley? (I guessed that one, forgot to mention in the comments.)

I was slightly to greatly disappointed in some of their misses. The “Sleepless in Seattle” star’s wife; the top producer of coffee not Juan Valdez’ country; the Friendly/Murrow actor; Dr. White’s -ology; the flying reptile’s fingerprints. Speaking of Boston and Dr. White, my 2nd cousin Jerome is a renowned physician there in a different field and has written several books.

  4. Rick says:

During the course of the game, I thought that Stefanie was on her way to become the next Jeopardy champion, but it didn’t quite work out that way. As for me, I performed a tad below average. Regarding the FJ, I afraid that never heard of Oliver Sacks.

    • Howard says:

If you’ve ever seen or heard of the movie “Awakenings,” it starred Robin Williams as the doctor based on Oliver Sacks, who wrote the book. Fascinating subject.

  5. Kevin Cheng says:

I was hoping we get to a tiebreaker today, but we didn’t because Jeff didn’t go all in but on the plus side, we finally have our first 2 day champion since mid-June. Jason has now won the most amount of money and the amount of games than his wife Susan.

  6. VJ says:

Wow! That was one crazy ending. I don’t think it would have gone down that way if Jeff had not decided to bet the whole amount he had just won on that last Daily Double.

On the final, I couldn’t believe Jeff didn’t go all in. I would have done it and hoped Jason either got it wrong or had one of those unfortunate blips on the deciding question.
