TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
From the time it became an independent country in 1991, the Republic of Macedonia’s name was a bone of contention with Greece. The Greeks argued that its use implied claims to the Greek province where Alexander the Great was born, among other things. When the new country sought to join the U.N., Greece objected. A compromise allowed Macedonia to join the U.N. under the provisional name “FYROM” (the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia). More problems cropped up when “FYROM” wanted to join NATO. The issue was finally resolved by the ratification of the Prespa Agreement in 2019 when Macedonia officially became The Republic of North Macedonia.
According to an article on DW.com (Deutsche Welle), it’s not that simple for the people who live there and entails many changes, from passports and license plates to the removal of the Vergina Sun from public use.
Peter got it right. He bet it all and finished with $12,800.
JJ drew a blank. That cost her $8,399 and left her with $12,801.
Sam got it, too. He bet $14,601 and won the game with the tidy sum of $42,401. His 5-day winnings are $156,202.

North Macedonia didn’t add the word “North” to it’s name or it’s name would be North North Macedonia. It was Macedonia that added North to it’s name.
Congratulations Sam on becoming a 5-time Jeopardy champion. So far 2019 has shown us some really sharp contestants. High money amounts are fantastic.
Another five-day champion. We’ll see how long can he go because he is assured of a spot in the 2020 ToC. By the way, I will NEVER EVER call the country as “North Macedonia”. The Prespa Agreement is the reason why Tsipras is out of office after an election defeat. I hope Zaev will be out as well, because he is a traitor to the Macedonian people. I’m still calling it as “Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”.
I guessed North Ossetia. What do I know?
I hope Holzhauer doesn’t make it to the finals in the TOC.
We’ll see Sam Kavanaugh in the 2020 (NOT 2019) Tournament of Champions that is most likely going to be in season 37.
How do you know that it’s going to be 2020?
I didn’t forget about the extra clues. I just got kinda preoccupied looking for prime day deals. (Can’t resist a bargain).

VJ, I mean the tournament after the upcoming Tournament of Champions.
I know that, Dalton. I mean, how do you know they won’t have one in 2019?
@VJ I think he’s saying that we know Sam will not be in this year’s ToC because the contestants have already been announced.
So that would make Sam a likely contender in the one after this year’s, which may be on 2020, but possibly later.
OK, thanks 😊
Woohoo another five day champion. I’m sure Sam is on track for the next toc. I would have to say a great game by all the players. This pattern occurred back in October 2018 when the comedian Alex was defeated by Alan Dunn and he had a streak. So far this season has less leader curses than season 34 because of the amount of four time winners and of course James Holzhauer making histor and In addition to the special tournaments this year VJ. Jj was really close to beating Sam but it didn’t happen but I am happy she nailed the daily double.
