NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS PERTH?

blog.id.com (“the population experts”) updated their list of the 50 largest Australian cities. It says on there that the two largest cities, Sidney (New South Wales) and Melbourne (Victoria), make up 40% of Australia’s entire population. Indeed, the population of No. 3, Brisbane (Queensland) and No. 4, Perth (Western Australia) combined is less than Melbourne’s. Adelaide (South Australia) rounds out the Top 5 with a population of roughly half of Brisbane.

Apparently, Indian Ocean Drive was supposed to lead the players to the right answer as Perth is the only Indian Ocean facing capital, but it’s a fairly new road that I never heard of. Have you?

Justin thought it was Adelaide. He lost his $8,000 bet to finish with $800.

Deb thought it was Brisbane. She lost everything but 2 dollars.

Ali came up with Darwin. He lost $701 but won the game with the $20,999 he had left. A 3-day winner at last. Ali has now amassed $67,801.

    @VJ, CONGRATULATIONS.

    @ John B., I did read your comments on Spoiler Talk. I also responded. Thank you buddy & have a great weekend. Aloha.

    • VJ says:

      Thanks Jacob and thanks to John for the congrats. To echo Tuesday’s clue “I was just as surprised as you”
      😀 😀

    • John I. says:

      @Jacob
      I’m just glad I don’t live on the Big Island….
      Btw, I’m gonna change my call signal to John I. (John I., King of the Cannibal Islands….:):):)

      • VJ says:

        Maybe you should write it out — John the First — so it doesn’t look like an initial

  2. John Christian Ambion says:

    @John B
    $67,801 is enough to knock Emily Milan out of contention in the TOC

    • John B. says:

      No, she is 3 spots behind Marty. He is #9 with 65.900, then Jeffrey with 62.300 as #10, #11 is Kate with 61.800 etc…so everybody was just knocked down a spot anyway. But Ali is still playing and if he wins his fourth game he would be ahead of any 3 game winner even if that 3 game winner – theoretically- would have won more $$$$ than Ali. 4 wins trump any 3 wins, regardless of the amount won. At least I believe so?? Right now Emily is #12 with 45.001 and they need fifteen, so there have to be 4 more 4 game or 4+ game winners, or 4 winners with 3 games who win more than Emily did to knock her off. She still has a fighting chance, no????

      Btw, you have a great weekend too, I will be around for a prediction, since it comes on at 21:00 HST, so still Thursday, but probably not tomorrow, am kind of busy…talk about retirement!!!!!
      Aloha my friend and take care!

  3. John B. says:

    @VJ
    CONGRATULATIONS!!!
    @Jacob
    I left a note for you on CotD re: Perth/Canada and Perth/Scotland

    Ali is now leading the 3 game winners and is #9 on the ToC list. They still need 7 4 or 4+ game winners to eliminate all 3 game winners from that list. Maybe Ali will be the first of them tomorrow???
    Too bad that nobody made the connection “Indian Ocean Road” to the west. The Indian Ocean is on the west side of Australia……

    HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND AND SUMMER , EVERYBODY. SUMMER STARTS TODAY!!!!

    • Jacob Ska says:

      @John B., forgot to comment about my shock on Messi & Argentina World Cup upset. Didn’t see that coming. This seems to be the year of upsets.

  4. Louis says:

    The contestants were very close to that correct answer and yet they weren’t there. Also VJ Brisbane and Adelaide were not bad guesses but still I can see that Ali has what it takes to dominate tomorrow. I guess his playing style is similar to Seth Wilson in a way. A smart bet by Ali. I still think Melbourne and Sydney should have been accepted here. At least Ali nailed the daily doubles today. What categories did you run today?

    • John B. says:

      @Louis
      Why, pray tell, should M. and S. Have been accepted? Wrong size, wrong side of the continent. Am I missing something here???
      Anyway, you take care too, have a terrific weekend and summer as well!
      Maui, 12:50 sunny 92 degrees

    • VJ says:

      @Lou, yeah, there can only be one 4th largest city and, according to the statistics on that blog I linked to, the answers given were Brisbane (No. 3), Adelaide (No. 5) and Darwin (No. 17). Trebek said that Ali’s choice, Darwin, wasn’t a bad guess but I personally thought that Adelaide was better, it’s not far from the Indian Ocean and it’s in the southern part of the country.
