WHAT IS ANDORRA?

From Ducksters: Geography for Kids: “Andorra was originally created as a buffer state by the French leader Charlemagne during the Middle Ages. It was meant to keep the Muslim Moors out of France. The Andorrans were to fight off the Moors and protect France. In return Charlemagne would grant them a charter. There were several of these buffer states created. Andorra is the last one of these states that is still an independent country.” This is the reason why the national anthem of Andorra honors “El Gran Carlemagny” and calls him the father of their country.

A principality that lies between France and Spain, Andorra is governed by co-princes: the President of France and the Spanish Bishop of Urgell. The current Bishop, Joan Enric Vives i Sicília, has been co-prince since 2003, serving with 4 French presidents: Jacques Chirac, Nicolas Sarkozy, François Hollande and, currently, Emmanuel Macron.

Steve thought it was Italy (Il Canto degli Italiani / Song of the Italians) That cost him $106 and left him with $94.

Jamie came up with Turkey (İstiklal Marşı / Independence March). She lost her $400 bet but won the game with the $18,000 she had left. Her 2-day total is $50,200.

Tough Final as we got a double stumper and the clues were mean to Kalee.

  2. Lou says:

Steve made a wise bet since he couldn’t build up momentum in the main round. Jamie didn’t have much competition today since she was pretty dominant throughout the game. I just hope the next final will be easier for Jamie hopefully and her opponents.

Was Steve going for William Cullen Bryant in that daily double about the speaking category VJ?

    • VJ says:

Maybe so, Lou. Maybe he was thinking of William Jennings Bryan as the son. But the son was Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.

  3. Kevin Cheng says:

I think Steve made a smart DD bet because he realize that time was running out and he wanted to play safe in order to stay in the game. But if he wagered everything and got it wrong, Jamie would been playing FJ against the house. We were this close to having only one player left competing in FJ!
