WHO IS AARON BURR?

The day before they were to face each other in that infamous July 11, 1804 duel in Weehawken, NJ, Aaron Burr wrote to his daughter, Theodosia, his deceased wife’s namesake, and Alexander Hamilton wrote a letter to his wife, Elizabeth. In the aftermath, it was Hamilton who perished.

In the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical “Hamilton,” both men sing to their ill-fated first-born in “Dear Theodosia.” Philip Hamilton died in a duel in 1801. Alexander Hamilton was survived by his wife and 7 other children. Theodosia disappeared at sea en route to New York in December 1812. Earlier that year, she and her husband, Joseph Alston, had lost their only child, 10-year-old Aaron Burr Alston. Aaron Burr was survived by two adopted sons, although it’s generally believed he was their biological father: Aaron Columbus Burr and Charles Burdett.

Laura had no response. She lost her $9,000 bet, dropping her down to $2,400.

Geoff came up with Lewis, who died in 1809 if he meant Meriwether. That cost him $15,000. He finished with $800.

Josh thought it was Lewis, too. He lost $6,000 but won the match with the remainder: $23,600. Josh Hill is the new Jeopardy! champ.

Another non solved jeopardy question. How did these contestants not know the duel between Alex Hamilton and Aaron Burr? Am I missing something here or are our contestants complete beginners with US history, VJ? Merriweather lewis is part of the Lewis and Clark expedition with the help of sacajawea. These guys are off by a century.

    • VJ says:

@Lou, they were in the right year, just the wrong event. Check out this list of 1804 events in American history.

Don’t be too hard on the players. I got the obscure ‘James Blaine’ triple stumper in the ‘James’ category yesterday, but I also missed the Final today. People may not know as much about Hamilton and Burr because they were never Presidents.

We ARE on the same page….same prediction of ONE, same premonition of ZERO…Maybe we should play the lottery together..:):):) Can’t do it in HI, no gambling allowed. I send you my numbers and if they are the same as yours….let’s go for it!!
    @Jlane
Congratulations for a perfect prediction, and again on a detour…………Etiam ego te absolvo ! :):):) And I think I speak for everybody! Boy, when did we have back to back complete wipe outs? VJ will know, I am sure.
And of course congratulations to Josh who was lucky that Geoff bet a bundle. If Josh had wagered just the standard 2.001 he would have won with 27.599, instead of 23.600, unless of course Geoff had been right. But: nice pay day anyway!
And again another new champ after just one day. I wonder how long it will take before we see the next player win at least 4 games?

    • Nell says:

Haha, John. Lottery gambling is perfectly legal here, but would you believe I’ve NEVER bought a ticket? A couple of years ago a friend gave me a birthday card with a scratch ticket in it and I won $50. You’d think I would have had a change of heart about the lottery, but nope, haven’t bought a ticket since. Quit while I was ahead, I did.

      • John B. says:

If you spend 20 bucks on a ticket, you would still be ahead…:):):)
Btw, do you have Irish or Gaelic roots? ? Just from the “I did” that you put at the END of your reply??? That’s ” Gaelic-speak”…Just curious.

        • Nell says:

Indeed, Scots Irish, I am. On me mum’s side.😉

          King’s English on dad’s.

  4. Nell says:

I did it again…ignored my gut instinct and hedged my bet.

What’s that famous quote? No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of today’s Jeopardy contestant.
