TOC question. In a news article yesterday, it said the winners of the first round win the money they accumulate AND move on to the next round. Is that correct? For years, I have always thought they just move on to the next round and don’t win any money like a typical day’s champion would. Anyone know for certain?

    • VJ says:

Soop, at the end of this week, 9 players advance to the semifinals. The players who go home each get $5,000.

3 people win the semifinals an advance to the finals. The player who go home each get $10,000.

At the end of the 2-day finals, the winner gets $250K, second place $100K and third place $50K.

Here is a link to the recap of the last match of the 2019 ToC when James Holzhauer won

      • Soop says:

I appreciate the response, VJ. I was aware of all of those payouts. My assumption was that was all they received for being on the TOC. But what the article said was the people who win each day to advance to the next round ALSO will collect how much money they accumulated for that day. Example, say I win Day 1 with $25,000 and advance to the semis where I lose. If the article is correct about them keeping the daily winnings, I would go home with $10,000 for making but losing in the semis plus the $25,000 I accumulated on Day 1. Is the article correct or do I just go home with $10,000? Thanks.

        • VJ says:

No, Soop, not to my knowledge — those who advance to the next rounds, don’t get the money amount that won them the semifinal or final spot. As far as I know, it’s just the $5K, $10K and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes.

  2. neeners says:

Maybe this is a technicality, but do Israel and Jordan not count as bordering the Red Sea?

    • VJ says:

Hi neeners, check out the “bordering countries” part of the Red Sea entry on Wikipedia. It says that Jordan and Israel border the Gulf of Aqaba, which is at the northern tip of the Red Sea. I guess that would be a technicality since they also say the Gulf of Aqaba is “a section of the Red Sea”

  3. DC says:

Very impressive performance by Jennifer, even in some sports clues typically dominated by men.

Jason only needs to beat one more wild card contestant over the next 2 days (highly probable) to get into the semifinal round.

    • Richard Corliss says:

My opinion is Jason will win the big money next Friday.

    • Albert says:

Jason has at least a 99.95 % chance of making it to the next round. I want the immature kid, Ryan, to lose. Ryan is a spaz.

      • Richard Corliss says:

Albert, that’s your opinion about Ryan. But Jason is very immature. I want him to lose.

      • VJ says:

Honestly, Albert, it seems very silly of you to say that Ryan is immature while, at the same time, calling him high school insults that you should have outgrown decades ago.

idk why you and Richard feel the need to disparage any player you don’t like and particularly on posts about games they are not even in, but you would probably do a lot better to direct your energies to rooting for the players you do like.

  4. Richard Corliss says:

    And then there were 13.

  5. Lou says:

Either kevin Walsh or Ben will knock Steve out. But I really am worried that Ryan might also be out too. Overall I think the ladies were pretty dominant so far. I hope.that holds true for Mackenzie jones. I also am hoping sam will get his shot in the semi.finals as well.

  6. William Weyser says:

If Paul didn’t cross off Yemen, he would have been in 4th place, and possibly in contention, for the Wild-Card Race. Instead, he & Sarah are out, and Steve got lucky, again.

    • Kevin Cheng says:

True, but I’m worried for Steve because he may be missing out for a Wild Card because I think either Kevin or Ben will bump him off tomorrow.

  7. Richard Corliss says:

    Go, Jennifer! Whoo!!
