VJ, are you saying in the recap that the clue is wrong — he didn’t write Jack and Diane because of that movie?
I think my readers know by now that I look at a lot of things to put the info about the clue together. I couldn’t find a direct quote from Mellencamp connecting “Jack & Diane” to “Splendor in the Grass”. By contrast, the Medium article quotes him directly or points to other sources that quote him directly but don’t mention “Splendor in the Grass”.
Even Wikipedia’s article on the song doesn’t mention “Splendor in the Grass”, but Wikipedia’s article on the film mentions the songs by Jackie DeShannon and Sean Cassidy.
So I personally think that connection in the clue is one of those things that are wrong but gain traction through repetition.
Tristan more or less had to bet the extra buck, since it was a non-runaway. Anne should have wagered $2601; it eventually cost her a 2nd place finish. Decent challengers but an up and down game, with many wrong answers and stumpers. I got some of the $1000 clues (I swear, they’re making those easier than the lower-$ ones) but only the 3rd DD. I know that FJ song all too well but that didn’t get it tonight. I’ve certainly heard of the movie but don’t believe I’ve seen it. I got only the last DD and not really any of those multiple stumpers.
Useless info: Jay Mcinerney got his master’s where I got my BA. He’s only 4 years younger. Had a huge bestseller in the 80s.
Well, then I guess I’ll have to be happy that he felt he was put in that position. I’ll never understand why that is, though. I mean, what difference does it make if he beats second place by a dollar or 1,000 dollars? Even if second place is right, it still won’t beat him.
Wow! Beaucoup stumpers in this game again and no runaway for Tristan. But I’m glad he bet that extra dollar. 😁 (That’s been bugging me all week!)
