WHAT IS AUSTRALIA?

Before 1901, the 6 British colonies of Australia operated independently of each other. Convict transportation to Australia had ceased by 1868 and by the 1890s, most of the colonies’ population was Australian-born. A movement towards uniting the six colonies as a nation became a hot topic. To that end, each colony worked toward creating a national Constitution. After it was approved, “British Parliament passed a law—the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act. The 6 colonies became the 6 states of Australia and federal Parliament was created. This is known as Federation.” The Constitution was proclaimed on January 1, 1901. More on the Parliamentary Education Office website

    Oh, and, Madame Bovary? Really?

Although, where was it, Jeopardy! or Masters, where, recently, the nominal Lover was identified in a clue? That made it fresh in my mind.

    • VJ says:

That was the third clue on that D.H. Lawrence novel this season and the second one to have the word “gamekeeper” in it. Gamekeeper is the tipoff for this novel (or Mellors if they name him).

Hannah is no great shakes at literature and I wonder how that will affect her chances in the ToC. That doesn’t seem to matter much in these regular games so far, even though they regularly have lit categories, as opposed to Arthur Chu’s run where Sports was his weakness and they rarely had any sports clues!

  2. Richard Corliss says:

    GO, HANNAH!!!!!!! WHOO!!!!!!

  3. Jason says:

    I went with Brazil.

Got less than half the TS correct. However, my errors were largely in line with Hannah, like the substance used to treat syphilis. I also said mercury.

Brad seemed to be his own worst enemy today.

  4. Rick says:

Out of desperation, I settled with Yugoslavia for FJ, but I knew that wasn’t going to gain any traction.

  5. John says:

I thought the final was either between Australia, Brazil, or India.

  6. Ismael Gomez says:

That was a tough final as we got a double stumper.
