WHAT ARE 2 OUT OF BUENOS AIRES, LIMA & BOGOTA?

According to worldatlas.com’s 2019 figures, the 5 largest cities in South America by population (including metro areas) are:

1. Sao Paolo, Brazil – 21.7 Million (Brasilia is the capital of Brazil)
2. Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina – 15 Million
3. Rio De Janeiro, Brazil – 13.4 Million
4. Bogota, capital of Colombia – 10.6 Million
5. Lima, capital of Peru – 12.1 Million

Wikipedia editors take note: Your 2015 figures could use some updating. Back then, Bogota and Lima’s population was under 10 million. Buenos Aires appears to be the capital with the largest increase in population.

Abbey got Buenos Aires, half of today’s correct FJ! but picked Montevideo as her second choice. She lost her $10,500 bet and was left with $300.

Brandon also got Buenos Aires but paired it with Santiago. That cost him $13,198 and left him with $2.

Pasquale made Buenos Aires unanimous but his second choice was “Sao Paulo”, not a capital city. He lost $7,401 but won the game with the $6,799 he had left. Pasquale Palumbo is the new Jeopardy! champion.

Abbey should have won. Poor wagering in final for her.

VJ, I thought of you when the Carmen Miranda postage stamp popped up lol.

I hated how the show was so critical of the pronunciation of COSSACKS when Aaron Rodgers pronounced it COSSICKS. They should have approved of Pasquale’s pronunciation. The show is being pedantic again.

    • Amy L Trojanowski says:

Disagree. He said CASSICKS – I thought of cassocks, priest’s dresses.

    • VJ says:

I agree with Amy — I heard Cassicks. My closed caption showed him saying Kazakhs but I definitely heard the double S sound there.

This reminds me of Seinfeld and the bubble boy episode. Is it Moors or is it Moops?

I happened to recall that Colombia was the second most populous country in South America, which was why I guessed it’s capital as my second city, although I did so with no real confidence. The other ones that came to mind were Santiago and Brasilia, even though I figured the latter would have a much smaller population due to being inland.

Brazil has just a shade under 50% of South America’s entire population, but like New Delhi and Washington D.C., its purpose built capital is a fairly small city compared to others in the country.

  5. Lou says:

I don’t find this tough either, as always, please don’t keep mentioning the same sentence about no one knows about whatever subjects are covered in FJ please. I find that to be very annoying.

As for the triple stumper, I chose Bruenos Aires and Bogota since south america seems to be populated with tourists in addition to the locals. Pasquale’s chances of getting a three game run looks to be slim but at least the toc clock is reset again until we get a 5 time winner.

  6. Ismael Gomez says:

Tough FJ as we got a triple stumper for the second Thursday in a row. Just like before, nobody knows about geography.
