WHAT IS THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION (ISS)?

The International Space Station has been in orbit since 1998, the product of a partnership between the USA, Canada, Russia, Japan and several European countries. According to the European Space Agency website, “It would have been impossible to build the Space Station on Earth and then launch it into space in one go – there is no rocket big enough or powerful enough. To get round this problem the Space Station was taken into space piece-by-piece and gradually built in orbit, approximately 400 km above the Earth’s surface. This assembly required more than 40 missions.” The main objective of the ISS is space exploration and research and to find ways to benefit people on Earth.

The Space Station travels 5 miles per second as it orbits Earth about 16 times every day. Find out when and where you might be able to spot it on NASA’S “Spot the Station” website.

Chelsea bet $5,000 and finished with $10,800.

Daniel bet it all and doubled his score to $28,400.

David bet $10,601 and won the game with $28,401. David Bederman is the new Jeopardy! champ.

  1. Howard says:

What else could the FJ answer have been? This had to be one of the rare times I hit all 3 DDs and FJ, Chelsea could have made FJ even more interesting if she’d scored on those 2 DDs. The first was confusing but not impossible (think Dostoevsky) and it helped on the other to know the author’s political bent.

I usually don’t let contestants’ idiosyncrasies get to me, but David’s head-and-hand shrug every time he was called on got old really quickly. I’m still in recovery from Matt Amodio’s “What’s” that prefaced every response.

The bridge suits stumper was a pushover, as was the Sally Ride shuttle.
