WHAT IS THE GREAT SALT LAKE?

Here are two facts about the Great Salt Lake from Just Fun Facts: “The lake receives water from numerous perennial and intermittent streams originating in the surrounding mountains, the most important of which are the Bear, Weber, and Jordan rivers” and “The Jordan, Weber, and Bear rivers deposit around 1.1 million tons of minerals in the lake each year, and the balance of evaporated water is mineral-free, concentrating the lake further.”

$18,000 has the got to be the highest second place total, or certainly one of the highest, going into FJ! for a player who had no chance to win the game(barring the leader in a lock game not protecting his lead)

  2. John says:

Just as an afterthought: I am a little bit not 100% convinced about the players picked “at random” at J!. Jen Kennings: yes, and after his run on J! he was of course invited to other shows. But James? He was already on several other shows (and did not always win) and all of a sudden he is on the 4th or 5th show…..maybe because the TV audience remembers him > higher ratings?
There are tens of thousands who pass the online test with 48 or more out of 50 and are not called up……REALLY random? There is SOME doubt in my mind.

  3. VJ says:

Another clue coincidence today: minestrone was the soup du jour here — that’s what I had for lunch

LINK: 11 more clues from the game

    • JJ says:

That’s so crazy! I had a huge hankerin’ for minestrone soup yesterday… go figure!

      • VJ says:

It’s homemade minestrone over here – my daughter makes it with ground beef and zucchini and all that stuff in the crock pot. Tasty and very filling!

      • rhonda says:

Sounds so yummy!! I love minestrone soup!
Another coincidence, I was thinking of going with the Hermitage for our game on Sunday.

        • VJ says:

Me too, Rhonda. It’s so funny that my daughter loves making it now. She never liked it as a kid.

Wow! on the Hermitage…. you should scratch it though. The Nixon repeat isn’t going so well for Doris.

        • Richard Corliss says:

Me too! Olive Garden makes that too. FYI, Anna is symmetrical.

        • rhonda says:

Oh, yeah, VJ, the Hermitage is out for sure.

  4. John B./I. says:

Just to clarify at WWII: the Germans meant Stalin’s organ not as a body part but as the instrument you find in churches, they called it STALINORGEL…because of that distinctive sound of the rockets, launching in less than a second interval.
Anyway, not much to say about this, high scores, CONGRATULATIONS to James. Nice haul!!! Should put him pretty high on the payout-list for the season. Looks his “job” comes in handy in reflexes and wagering strategies, but I have to say: excellent job overall, wide range of knowledge. High scores all in all, almost 18K in DDs raised the scores of course significantly. Anne had really no chance, just running into a brick wall. So did Alex for that matter.Maybe James can keep it up and be the next 5 or 5+ game winner? As for the FJ clue: this was not even a softball, more like a ping-pong ball, fit for a regular clue in a teenage tournament. All predictions called for a triple solve and that’s exactly what happened.Let’s see if James can end the week tomorrow on a similar high note!

    • John B./I. says:

      PS
Only 3 TS total that I could count. Despite being no basketball till Sat they keep airing J! this week at noon instead 4:30…

  5. William Weyser says:

At least, James’ 1st appearance on JEOPARDY! certainly made up for his appearance on ”500 Questions” back in 2015, and this is also the 1st Triple Solve in 4 weeks. It’s about time.

    • Richard Corliss says:

Maybe he’ll be the next great champion.

      • William Weyser says:

According to my mom, the chances are pretty good that James will be the next great champion, due to his great performance, and if you’re wondering about what happened to James Holzhauer on ”500 Questions”, well, he was on that show back in 2015, and he was unable to beat the champion named: Steve Bahnaman, who managed to get through 168 questions, and win a grand total of $110,000, and as I said, James’s 1st appearance on JEOPARDY! certainly made up for his ”500 Questions” appearance.

        • William Weyser says:

Also, I forgot to mention that in 2014, James was on another game show called ”The Chase”, and his team beat ”The Beast”, and split $175,000, meaning that James & his 2 teammates won $58,333 each.

  6. Lou says:

That’s another big payday for the gambler. I do think it reminded me of Roger Craig and Michael bilow with big paydays, including Andrew Pau. Anna didn’t have much luck today. But still chuck Norris brought back some great memories for me. Glad today’s triple solve helped all the players. Also does chuck Norris remind you guys of Tex Murphy (Played by Chris Jones) John? He also had a lot of funny scenes. Congratulations to james on his big win. I hope he continues to earn his big payouts next week as well.

  7. JJ says:

I LOVE Chuck Norris memes! “Chuck Norris can lead a horse to water… AND make it drink!”
And lets hear it for the professional sports gambler! His win today will certainly help finance a few football parlays in the future…

    • VJ says:

      LOL, JJ…..

“When Chuck Norris was born… he drove his Mom home from the hospital”

      😆

      • JJ says:

@VJ – HA! Great one! There are literally 1000’s of those in circulation – and the list is growing! “Chuck Norris doesn’t bowl strikes – he knocks down one pin and the other nine faint!”

    • JP says:

When Chuck Norris jumps into a lake, he does not get wet. The lake gets Chuck Norris-ed.

    • VJ says:

I love ’em, JJ and JP !! Chuck is the coolest 😎

  8. Richard Corliss says:

Wow. James was too fast on that button just like Andy Richter. Anna couldn’t get rolling she didn’t ring in until Double Jeopardy. She had one answer right and one answer wrong just like Sharon Wing from October 16, 2006.
