WHO IS GEORGE McCLELLAN?

Lincoln’s dissatisfaction with General George McClellan’s command of the Army of the Potomac led Lincoln to relieve McClellan of the post in 1862 and appoint General Ambrose Burnside in his place. This interesting paper sheds more light on the contentious relationship between Lincoln and McClellan, describing it as “A Marriage of Convenience Turned Sour” (From Part V) “McClellan did many things that annoyed the President. Though McClellan was usually cordial when writing or speaking with the President, he often mocked him behind his back, referring to him often as a ‘gorilla’ …. Lincoln was not the perfect husband either; he constantly mocked McClellan behind his back, once writing to his wife, Mary Todd, “Gen. McClellan and myself are to be photographed… if we can be still long enough. I feel Gen. M should have no problem.” Lincoln had his habits that bothered McClellan as well…. The strain that was put on the relationship cannot be solely attributed to McClellan’s flaw.”

Lauren thought it was Sherman. She lost her $5,701 bet and wound up with $2,999.

Matt came up with Sherman, too, but only got as far as “She”. He lost $9,798 and was left with $2.00.

Sarah picked Grant. McClellan occurred to her, she explained, but she thought Grant was a safer pick. Sarah lost $6,000 but won the game with the $8,400 she had left. Her 2-day total is $39,400.

Some amusing answers tonight. “Lima” for the 4-letter diet/S American capital, and “zydeco” for the German-Austrian “z-instrument”.

Hey thanks for this page. I was watching tonight’s episode (DVR’ed) and had to re-watch the “flying jib” question three times, to make sure he said “two-word boat item”. I googled that phrase (before watching the next segment) and this page came up! 🙂

Three ladies tomorrow. Hasn’t happened on a Tuesday in regular-play since February 7, 2017.

Well a tough clue to start this week. I picked sherman but McClellan didn’t come to me VJ. You probably chose grant as well right? If anyone here is an ER fan or Greys anatomy, no one should have problems remembering the defibrillator to give your heart a jump start. But at least Sarah broke the leader curse and I hope she can go on a long run. Hopefully tomorrow will get better.

No, Lou, I didn’t say Grant. Here’s what I said today on Spoiler Talk at 8:13 a.m.: “I got today’s clue with the general that Lincoln replaced as commander of the Army of the Potomac, who was governor of New Jersey some years after the Civil War. He has the same first name as Alex Trebek.”
