Very strong race down the stretch for Deb. I thought writer Daniel would run that First Novel category, but Deb nailed most of them. But I was surprised none of them knew George Smiley’s creator. (Haven’t read his books, but knew the character. And that famous author’s name is a pseudonym.)

Didn’t hurt to know that JW was lauded for his 90th birthday last year. But pretty easy FJ anyway after a long run of toughies.

That French Olympics city was tough, but we sports junkies remember stuff like that. I winced when Deb pronounced the “x” in Chamonix. “Cool your (blank)” was a low-$ softball of a clue.

Didn’t matter in the long run, but “Dynastic war” was a near giveaway on that DD clue.

Daniel has only one wrong in the show today, because of the Daily Double blanking.

Here is another interesting source I found for the “cool your” TS that connects it with horses.

As a very old equestrian, I loved this!!! On a completely different note – modern age slang was “cool your jets” and prison was once referred to as a “cooler” which was also the name of a movie starring William Macy as a casino employee hired to break up a customer’s winning streak. (Sorry but I’m on my third cup of coffee)
