WHAT IS “THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU”?

H.G. Wells’ 1896 novel “The Island of Dr. Moreau” is about a mad scientist and his efforts to turn animals into humans in the House of Pain. It is narrated by the character Edward Pendrick. An introduction by Pendrick’s nephew names Noble’s Isle as the location taken over by crazy Moreau. Dr. Moreau was portrayed on film by Charles Laughton in “Island of Lost Souls” (1932). Burt Lancaster played him in 1977 and Marlon Brando in 1996 in films with the same title as the novel.

Zahkia went with “Frankenstein.” That cost her nothing so she remained at $10,600.

Wes didn’t have a response. He lost his $8,601 bet and had $2,999 left.

Paul wrote down “Shutter Island”. He lost $3,001, hanging on to $17,199, more than enough to remain Jeopardy! champ. His 2-day total is $38,199.

The Jeopardy.com website took off the actual date for the Teachers Tournament.

I remember seeing two movies based on novels by H.G. Wells before I was even 12 years old. (“The Invisible Man” and “The Time Machine”).

I don’t remember how old I was when I first saw one of the Dr Moreau films. Maybe in my teens. I thought Vincent Price would have made a good Dr. Moreau.

  3. Ismael Gomez says:

Tough FJ as we got another triple stumper this week.

    • William Weyser says:

Bad News is that this week, so far, has been a really hard week with only 3 Correct Responses out of 12.
Good News: At least, Paul broke the Carousel of 1-Day Champions.

  4. Lou says:

Not too familiar with this one. But on the other hand shutter island was a good horror movie starring Leo DiCaprio. Also what was zahkia thinking with Frankenstein? If I remember correctly, Victor Frankenstein made his monster in Ingolstadt, Germany and it didn’t have a house of pain. I guess none of these guys are avid readers.

    • JP says:

“Not being an avid reader” is an interesting deduction to make from the fact that they failed to solve one particular clue about one particular book.
