Final Jeopardy: Oscar History (3-5-18)

Today’s Final Jeopardy question (3/5/2018) in the category “Oscar History” was:

In the 1940s he became the first person to receive nominations as actor, director & writer for the same film

New champ Matt Lisiecki, won $14,950 last Friday. In his second game, his challengers are: Jesse Darland, from Charleston, SC; and Shari Post, from Aurora, CO.

Round 1 Categories: Science – Home Furnishings – Odds & Ends – Ditloids – A Man for 2 Seasons – Thomas Less

Jesse found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Science” under the $1,000 clue on the 12th pick of the round. He was in second place with $1,400, half of Matt’s lead. He went with a true Daily Double and he was RIGHT.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS ORSON WELLES?

Out of his 1942 “Citizen Kane” Best Actor, Director and Writing nominations, Orson Welles won in Best Writing (Original Screenplay) at the 14th Academy Awards, sharing the honor with Herman Mankiewicz. Three other individuals have achieved the Best Actor, Director and Writing feat since Welles: Woody Allen, Warren Beatty and Roberto Benigni. That’s No. 12 on this 1999 Washington Post Oscar trivia quiz.

A lot of new Oscar quizzes have appeared online recently. Here’s one from the Saturday Evening Post

Jesse got it right. His $9,599 bet brought him up to $19,199.

Shari drew a blank. She only lost $610, leaving her $9,190.

Matt got it right, too. He bet $4,601 so he won the game with $19,601. Matt is a 2-day champ with $34,551.

What was the answer to the “C” category related to the martial art. I never heard what the guy said.

I noticed that this answer for final was used before VJ. Congrats to Matt since he has proven his worth. I am thinking he could be the next streaker but we have to wait and see what happens. Also did you watch the oscars yesterday VJ? I was hoping that dunkirk would have won but it didn’t.

    • VJ says:

Yes, Lou, this is the 4th time that this has been the answer in FJ! and they have a boatload of clues (on J-Archive) covering everything from the state Welles was born in to a legend of how he ate 18 of Pink’s famous hot dogs in one sitting. One thing I don’t see on there is his role as Rochester in “Jane Eyre” (1943)

I missed the Oscars. I fell asleep really early last night.

      • Lou says:

Same here, my mom and I got back from China yesterday and I was too tired to continue watching the show. However though I found it amazing that Welles broke the record of the hotdogs. Still though I missed the three weeks of february and not being able to watch jeopardy all that time. But still this is the first time I’ve seen rob worman being a 6 time champ because I know that in the past we had Hunter Appler, Pranjal Vachaspati, Alan Lin and Lisa Schlitt as big winners. It feels good to be back in america now.

        • VJ says:

Welcome back to the good ol’ USA, Lou. I’m sure you had a fine time on your trip, but as Dorothy Gale said “There’s no place like home” 🙂

I tried to make that image in the second DD smaller but it looked like a graham cracker. 😀 😀

Speaking of Daily Double, my dad didn’t understand Matt’s wager on the Daily Double on the last clue of the Double Jeopardy! round, because Matt was risking his lead, and I was trying to explain that Matt was either trying to put this game away, which he didn’t, or he was trying to put his 2 opponents in a Crush, which means that if 2nd place has less than 2/3’s the leader’s score, the only way that 2nd place can win is if that player gets it right & wagers enough, and the leader gets it wrong, or gets it right, but for some reason, doesn’t wager enough.
