TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS 3M?
The Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company started out in 1902 in search of a vein of corundum in vain. While that venture didn’t pan out, this video will tell you how the company’s owners turned the failure into spectacular success. The company became known world-wide as “3M”; oddly enough, however, its official name was not changed to “3M Company” until 2002, when the company celebrated its centennial year.
I also found a page with lesser known trivia on 3M and its products, like how Scotch Tape got its name; how the soles of Neil Armstrong’s space boots were made of synthetic material from 3M; and how 3M developed the first diaper tapes that replaced safety pins in 1985 (to the delight of mothers and babies everywhere!)
Donna got it right. She bet $3,798 and finished with $7,598.
Jeff thought it was North Star. He lost $4,395 and finished with $5.00.
Jamie got it right, too. He bet $1,008 and won the game with $27,008. Jamie’s 10-day total is $272,810.
A triple stumper from each round:
WRITING TEAMS ($2000) He teamed up with Ben Elton to write “Blockader” before becoming the master of Brits in love with films like “Notting Hill”
IN TAME IMPALA ($2000) It’s a marine snail very hard to pry off a rock
2 years ago: NONE of the players got this FJ in “20th CENTURY BOOKS”
TIME mentioned “cruelty & enforced conformity” when summing up this novel with a “stonily silent narrator” show
