Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS THE LITTLE CORPORAL?
Most 19th century sources agree that Napoleon Bonaparte was nicknamed “the Little Corporal” as a result of the courage he demonstrated against the Austrians during the May 1796 Battle of Lodi. Considering that Napoleon was a General at the time, some have wondered how the nickname was a compliment.
In “The Private Life of Napoleon, Vol. 2” (1894), historian Arthur Lévy explained why that is high praise coming from the troops: “A corporal is almost a comrade; his authority is almost fraternal. He never quits his squadron. While he has to care for the needs of his inferiors, he is exempt from none of their dangers; he is a private soldier endowed with responsibility. Therefore, in adopting this curious nickname, these humble soldiers affirmed that, in their eyes, their Emperor was to them a comrade.”
Mihir got it right. He bet $12,499 and finished with $24,999.
Caitlin came up with “Brave Little Soldier”. She bet and lost her whole $15,400.
Margaret’s “Little General” response was close but it still cost her half of her $20,600. She finished with $10,300 and that made Mihir Nene the new Jeopardy! champ.
This was the only triple stumper in the Double Jeopardy! round:

What a terrific group tonight, all capable of winning. “Little general” is all I could come up with, which I knew would not gibe with the “infantry” part of the clue.
I don’t know what it adds, announcing the next day players. Maybe because they put it on the website already? I don’t know.
Mihir did the annoying (to me) thing of starting to talk before being acknowledged. However, I believe that to be, rather clearly, nerves. I was just a bit taken aback that, in the initials category, Mihir’s response of “Bohr” was accepted, without having to give the first name also, but, then I recalled that a precedent was set with Matt Amodio, when he only gave the last name in similar categories, and was not prompted to be more specific.
Still, I found this to be a much better, more competitive game than most in the past several weeks.
There’s a sea shanty about Napoleon called “Boney was a Warrior” so Boney is another one of his nicknames
I like this new feature as well with Johnny introducing new challengers for the returning champ.
I find this group pretty strong today but caitlin should have bet at least half of her amount to cover Margaret. Maybe mihir might get a streak to be our 15th participant in the toc.
Caitlin bet her entire sum of $15400 on FJ.
Mihir is a LONG way from making the ToC, but I was impressed with the way he rebounded after missing that tough DD. A larger wager (which Ken tried talking him into) would have doomed him to certain defeat.
For the second day in a row, the player who was in third place won the game after being the only player to respond correctly in FJ! Will that trend continue this week? Also, if you remember yesterday the ending of the episode is when Johnny Gilbert introduces who are the new players competing against the returning champion and the same thing happened today. Maybe they will do the ending from now on cause I like the new feature.
