Final Jeopardy: Historic Nicknames (3-22-22)

Here are some more clues from the 3/22/2022 Jeopardy! game. Please don’t put the answers to these clues in the comments so people who missed the game can have a chance to answer them. It is okay to refer to them by category and clue value or by part of the clue.

The players missed two clues in A WORD TO THE WISE, the only stumpers in the Jeopardy! round:

($200) It’s the “I” in Britain’s MI6
($400) An herb, or a profound philosopher
($600) The idiom “too” this smart synonym “by half” means you’re wise, but in a way that causes problems
($800) It’s the highest rating in military rifle marksmanship
($1000) Add -nt to the end of a word for one overly sensitive to decorum & you’ll get this synonym for wisely cautious

What a terrific group tonight, all capable of winning. “Little general” is all I could come up with, which I knew would not gibe with the “infantry” part of the clue.

I don’t know what it adds, announcing the next day players. Maybe because they put it on the website already? I don’t know.

Mihir did the annoying (to me) thing of starting to talk before being acknowledged. However, I believe that to be, rather clearly, nerves. I was just a bit taken aback that, in the initials category, Mihir’s response of “Bohr” was accepted, without having to give the first name also, but, then I recalled that a precedent was set with Matt Amodio, when he only gave the last name in similar categories, and was not prompted to be more specific.

Still, I found this to be a much better, more competitive game than most in the past several weeks.

There’s a sea shanty about Napoleon called “Boney was a Warrior” so Boney is another one of his nicknames

  4. Louis says:

I like this new feature as well with Johnny introducing new challengers for the returning champ.

I find this group pretty strong today but caitlin should have bet at least half of her amount to cover Margaret. Maybe mihir might get a streak to be our 15th participant in the toc.

    • Howard says:

Caitlin bet her entire sum of $15400 on FJ.

Mihir is a LONG way from making the ToC, but I was impressed with the way he rebounded after missing that tough DD. A larger wager (which Ken tried talking him into) would have doomed him to certain defeat.

  5. Kevin Cheng says:

For the second day in a row, the player who was in third place won the game after being the only player to respond correctly in FJ! Will that trend continue this week? Also, if you remember yesterday the ending of the episode is when Johnny Gilbert introduces who are the new players competing against the returning champion and the same thing happened today. Maybe they will do the ending from now on cause I like the new feature.
