Final Jeopardy: Films of the 1960s (3-21-18)

Today’s Final Jeopardy question (3/21/2018) in the category “Films of the 1960s” was:

Bernard Herrmann scored this 1960 black & white thriller using only the string section of an orchestra

2x champ Lisa Mueller, has now won $33,200. In Game 3, she is up against these two ladies: Chris Franz, from Orwigsburg, PA; and Rebecca Zoshak, from State College, PA.

As Alex noted during the chat, Rebecca Zoshak was invited back for another game after a misleading FJ in the 1/11/2018 game affected her negatively. Serendipity: that FJ was about a movie, too.

WHAT IS “PSYCHO”?

From CMuse.org: When Bernard Herrmann wrote the music for Psycho, “he was dealing with a reduced music budget and disagreements with Hitchcock. Hitchcock originally wanted a jazz score for Psycho and did not want any music in the shower scene. Herrmann frequently ignored what directors suggested and this film was no exception. Since he was faced with a lower budget, he used only strings for the entire score. To create the screeching music for the shower scene, he made use of different techniques for violins of plucking the strings, tremolos, and harmonics.”

Never nominated for an Academy Award for any of his scores in Hitchcock films, Herrmann was nominated for “Citizen Kane” and “All That Money Can Buy” in 1942, winning the Oscar for the latter; and for “Taxi Driver” and “Obsession” (posthumously) in 1977.

Chris bet $6,000 to finish with $12,600.

Lisa bet $6,001 bet, bringing her up to $13,201.

Rebecca bet $7,007 bet and won the game with $14,407. Rebecca Zoshak is the new Jeopardy! champ. “It’s nice to come back, isn’t it?” Alex asked. “It sure is,” Rebecca responded.

So what is the ‘official’ answer to the streaming producer question?

    • VJ says:

@Kathleen, “Manchester by the Sea” was the response they wanted. After that 1/11/18 game, Alex Trebek explained that they should have said the film was “distributed” by an internet streaming service, not produced. Rebecca evidently discounted that film because she knew it was distributed by Amazon. The link to that particular match is in the paragraph after the players’ names.

Congrats on a triple solve today by the ladies. It’s great to see Rebecca zoshak again. But do you Remember the three way elimination back in January 2016, VJ? I really hope Rebecca has a long jeopardy run without being eliminated again. Plus, when was the last time you saw psycho and it’s sequels?

    • VJ says:

@Lou, I saw the original Psycho a couple of times though really, once was enough. ha ha ha. I don’t remember when the last time was and I never saw any of its sequels.
