WHAT IS ANASTASIA?
Anastasia is the feminine form of the Greek name Anastasios, meaning “resurrection”, (ana = “up” and stasis = “standing”). It was the name of the youngest daughter of Nicholas II, last Tsar of Russia. The Bolsheviks executed the Tsar, his wife, their 5 children and 4 servants in mid-July 18, 1901. A rumor sprang up that the youngest girl, Grand Duchess Anastasia survived the Romanov massacre. Imposters sprang up, the most famous being Anna Anderson whose claim was disproved in 1990; however, It was not until 2007 that it was conclusively proven that Anastasia Romanov did not survive.
The Anastasia rumor inspired countless articles, books, films, and TV shows. Perhaps the most famous (at one time, anyway) was the 1956 film “Anastasia” starring Ingrid Bergman in the title role. She won her second Best Actress Oscar for that performance. (Her first was for the 1944 psychological thriller “Gaslight”.) At the same time, Yul Brynner, her co-star in “Anastasia”, won Best Actor for “The King and I” (1956).
Carman tried Rosario. She lost $599 and finished with $1.00.
Aidan wrote down “who indeed” but bet nothing so his score remained $4,300.
Jamie got it right. He bet $2,434 and won the game with $51,234, making up for some of that money that went down the drain yesterday. Jamie’s 3-day total is $77,800.
