Keith found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Captain” under the $400 clue on the 9th pick of the round. He was in second place with $1,000, $1,200 less than Dave’s lead. He bet $682 and he was RIGHT.

Keith finished in the lead with $6,482. Michalle was second with $3,600 and Dave was last with $2,000. One $1,000 clue went uncovered.

Michalle found the first Daily Double in “Grant Wood’s Americana” under the $1,600 clue on the 17th pick. She was in second place with $9,600 now, $3,282 less than Keith’s lead. She bet $2,000 and guessed Truman right after time was up. That was WRONG anyway.

Michalle got the last Daily Double in “Overcoming Obstacles” under the $1,200 clue, with 5 clues left after it. In second place with $13,200, she had $882 less than Keith’s lead. She bet $2,000 again and this time, she was RIGHT.

Michalle finished in the lead with $16,800. Keith was next with $16,082 and Dave was in third place with $4,400. No clues went uncovered.

The Battle of Antietam, notorious as the bloodiest battle of the Civil War, took place on 9/17/1862 near Sharpsburg, Maryland, 50+ miles northwest of Washington, DC. President McKinley’s visit was a return visit because he was a Union Sergeant at the Battle. There is a monument to him near Burnside’s Bridge. The other 6 Presidents are: Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, Grant (2x), both Roosevelts (FDR 2x), JFK and Jimmy Carter.
Katie Couric said only three Civil War sites (Antietam, Chickamauga and Chattanooga) have Native American names. However, you can find a bunch more on American Battlefields Trust. There’s Eutaw Springs, Kennesaw Mountain, Okolona and Olustee. Appomatox and Rappahannock are believed to be derived from Algonquian languages. Some people believe that Manassas comes from Algonquian and has no real connection to Manasseh in the Bible.
Dave didn’t have a complete response. Katie said it looked like he was going for Appomattox (VA), which is more than 150 miles from D.C. He bet nothing so he lost nothing and remained at $4,400.
Keith went with Monmouth, a New Jersey battlefield site in the Revolutionary War. That cost him $16,080 and left him with $2.00.
Michalle came up with Gettsyburg (PA), also more than 150 miles from DC. She lost her $16,700 bet and finished with $100. So Dave Pai won the game by keeping the most money. He is a 2-day Jeopardy champ with total winnings of $32,700.

Michelle could’ve won by wagering anything less then $12400 in final jeopardy or maybe even wagering larger on that DD.
What kind of wager was that for Keith in FJ??? Why play all game and then not maximize your chance of winning in the end.???

I guarantee that all 3 GOATS would have nailed that final. The rest of us are mere mortals. Antietam came to mind for me immediately because I knew it was a battle site in MD. Turned out to be right.
Other choice would have been Appomattox.
Howard, I would imagine people who are familiar with the area would be able to figure this out, if they didn’t already know it. Certainly they would not say places like Gettysburg or Appomattox.
Interestingly, Katie Couric was born and grew up within shouting distance of Washington, D.C.

I thought that it was Gettysburg, but then again, the final answer was erroneously phrased. I mean, things might have been a little clearer for everyone if the answer had specified ‘Washington D.C.”
Clearly, no one thought that it was the state of Washington.
I was watching this game with 2 of my girls. I went on a little streak of 7 right in a row. “I’m killing it,” I bragged…. then, of course, I got the next one wrong right after that. 🤣🤣🤣 (The girls are too nice to rub it in.)
Always amazes me how people who are bright enough to get on the show completely fail at optimal betting strategy. 2nd place failure….it happens too frequently.
Well, the champion obviously took a gamble, and won handsomely. Good for him!
Dave made a great comeback today despite not being able to get anything going. But let’s hope he can score a runaway on Monday. What was Keith thinking with Monmouth? He must have misread the clue and got the revolutionary war confused with the civil war here. Michalle had a strong opening round but I think her nervousness must have taken over.
