WHAT IS REALPOLITIK?
Realpolitik is a term coined by Ludwig von Rochau in “Grundsätze der Realpolitik” (Principles of Practical Politics), an 1853 essay intended to apply to the German Confederation. Practical politics is, more or less, the opposite of ethical politics. I found a video that will explain it better than I can but first, let’s tackle the pronunciation. Forvo has soundbites in 4 different languages. The “real” part is 2 syllables in all of them, even English.
The 1833 Frankfurt uprising von Rochau was involved in is an interesting story in itself. He escaped from jail and lived in France for 10 years. Others fled to the United States. von Rochau returned to his native land years later as a political journalist, but fled to Italy in 1853 (where he wrote RealPolitik).
Brian gave a shoutout to his family. He lost $6,195 and finished with $5.
Luigi went with pragmatism. That cost him $18,599 and left him with one dollar.
Troy tried pragmatic. He lost $8,801 but won the game with $19,599. That completes the semifinals. Starting tomorrow, we’ll be seeing Troy Meyer, Ben Chan and Yogesh Raut battle it out until one of them wins 3 games.
