I was 2/3 on DD; I didn’t know where was the Khan statue. As for Final, I knew von Leewenhoek, but didn’t know the translation.
I winced more at Isaac’s pronunciation of Lippazzaner (I think I spelled that correctly, or at least close). VJ, you could also say that the French way of saying Guy is like the clarified butter ghee! I got that one wrong, BTW. I said “Charles Perrault”. I was happy that Mark got the Buffalo Sabres clue!
I thought of ghee, Jason, but I worried someone might think it was pronounced like gee.
I wasn’t surprised Isaac got FJ! He had a Dutch Words category in one of his games and did well.
Your best bet probably would have been to rhyme Guy with glee, VJ, for a definite hard G
Good battle and a tough FJ. Huygens was the only Dutch scientist I could think of. Surprised no one knew the famous gym. There were some real pronunciation gaffes tonight. I winced at Guy de Maupassant. Woody Allen had an old bit in which he described a bully from his childhood, Guy de Maupassant Goldberg or something similar.
Wow, it was a really competitive match between Isaac and Mark, and I sure thought that Amy would have come from behind. Anyways, I performed a tad below average in the game, but nailed the FJ.
I got that first round DD because that was one of my nicknames back in the day, a reference to my Irish temper. lol. I hope Isaac has better luck with the DD’s in the finals.
On another note, it doesn’t really bother me when Ken gives a more correct pronunciation of a response after the player like he did with the last name of actor Milo in the Italian category today. It did tick me off, though, when he didn’t do it for the French author of Boule de Suif. Guy in English rhymes with “buy”. In French, Guy rhymes with “see”.
