Robin’s $601 wager doesn’t even give herself a chance to win. At least, Ryan and Ray were gunning for a victory.

    • Howard says:

Agreed. She was playing for 2nd place, assuming she got FJ right and Ryan missed or bet $0. Dumb because both 2nd and 3rd get $5K.

  2. Jason says:

1/3 on DD, and no clue on FJ. I first said “Reykjavik”, then changed to Havana.

Had Ken not said that Robin won the TOC, I would not have had any idea whom she was.

  3. Ari Belenkiy says:

Not clear how the Double Jeopardy questions are chosen. A trivial question about Soros’ Hungary and very non-trivial one about Oswald Mosley.

And again the contenders are allowed to skip first names of the people they name: why Isabel Allende was answered with her fmily name only?

    • VJ says:

It has been said in the past that the Daily Doubles are assigned randomly. I don’t believe that because after Holzhauer showed ’em how to play bottom up, the Daily Doubles began appearing in the second row more frequently. Whatever, a Daily Double doesn’t necessarily signify that the clue will be difficult or easy. I’ve seen players bet a lot on $800 clues, thinking they’ve got it made only to get a real tough one.

As for only the last name being accepted, it’s been that way forever, unless 2 people in the same field have the same last name — like John Adams and John Quicy Adams.

  4. Howard says:

Good game between three pretty equal players, the last two DDs giving Ray the leg up he needed. I have no recollection of Robin at all. She boo-booed twice, saying “Giants” for a clue in the IC category, and “Less than Zero” for the name of a fascist leader.

FJ was a toughie. I thought of Wellington, NZ and stuck with it. Got the first two DDs, had no clue on the third. Very surprised no one knew Johnny Appleseed’s real name. One of those things I learned as a kid that stuck. Wasn’t sure about the jazz composer but got it.

  5. Ismael Gomez says:

And we got another triple stumper this week as today’s final was also tough due to that pesky geography clue. Besides, the contestants don’t know about geography.
