WHO IS ERNEST HEMINGWAY?
Ernest Hemingway worked at the Kansas City Star from October 1917 to April 1918 but that short stint had a life-long influence on his writig style that Hemingway never failed to acknowledge. Hemingway credited C.G. Wellington, the assistant city editor of The Star in 1917 and the Star Copy Style sheet with molding his writing into clear, provocative prose.
The style sheet contained 110 rules but these were the main ones: “Use short sentences. Use short first paragraphs. Use vigorous English. Be positive, not negative.” Hemingway called them the best writing rules he ever learned, adding “I’ve never forgotten them. No man with any talent, who feels and writes truly about the thing he is trying to say, can fail to write well if he abides with them.” Learn more: Of ‘Star Style’ and a reporter named Hemingway
Jimmy bet $8,000, bringing him up to $18,600.
Dave bet $4,600 and won the game with $22,000. Dave’s 3-day total is $69,200.
2 triple stumpers from A CHAPTER OF IT BEGINS… ($200) “During the summer the packing houses were in full activity again, and Jurgis made more money”
($1000) “At this epoch, Marius was twenty years of age. It was three years since he had left his grandfather”

Why was the question on Chicago’s nickname wrong? Windy City I thought was correct
@Paula, Windy City was wrong because the category was Ordinal Phrases — only Second City was gonna work there
P.S. that was in Friday’s game 2/11/22
The “Jurgis made more money” TS stumped me, too, and then I thought about it, and realized I read it 36 years ago!
For FJ, I said “Jack London”. I thought he was a newspaperman. However, to see why I was mistaken, I looked up his wiki page, and now I feel dirty.
Good game between the men. Poor Lara went into the red and never rang in again.
But she got $1000 more for her effort than I did for coming in a close 2nd.
Those DDs really kept Jimmy from a likely win. He was a good match for Dave.
Have to admit the final stumped me. I forgot the category and thought it was Mark Twain, who had been a newspaper man.
The clues weren’t nice to Lara. I am sure that Richard Corliss or William Weyser would say darn those daily doubles to Jimmy.
What made Jimmy think the day of the tragedy is the correct answer on that Daily Double?
He had high hopes that governments moved really, really fast (which, admittedly, the next day was pretty fast for the UN).
Delighted that Mohawk won💰👍🏽💰‼️
That was a weird date to give on that daily double. Smh!
