TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS ENTROPY?

The Etymology Dictionary confirms that German physicist Rudolph Clausius coined the word “entropy” in 1865. They include a quote from “The Scientific Style of of Josiah Willard Gibbs” that says Clausius “invented the word entropy as a suitable name for what he had been calling “the transformational content of the body.” Watch the video for a better explanation of what it means than I can give you.

Allie got it right. She didn’t bet anything so she finished with the $3,400 she started with.

Steve got it, too. He bet $4,000 and finished with $10,000.

Zach came up with synergy. He lost his $2,301 bet and finished with $7,399. That made Steve Crupi the new Jeopardy! champ.

In 1975, my parents and sister were visiting my wife and me in LA, and we went to one of the first tapings of “Phyllis” (starring Cloris Leachman, who died last week). Valerie Harper was sitting right behind us. My sister asked her for an autograph, and she declined, saying she didn’t want to be the center of attention and distract from the show.

Had Steve not answered the $1600 Emmys question right before that, then it was a lock game for Zach.

  2. Rick says:

Yeah, entropy, a state of randomness. How brilliant.

  3. Lou says:

Zach played well for six games and still he is prepared for the toc. Still though I am surprised that no one knew pokemon or animal crossing in the video games category. As a huge fan of Pokemon myself, I.have.pretty much watched the series. Also VJ have you played animal.crossing or any of the pokemon games on the game boy? It wasn’t allie’s day unfortunately

    • VJ says:

No, Lou, I personally have never played Pokemon but my daughter had a Pikachu gameboy some years ago. As for Animal Crossing, I hear about it mostly every day. I bought my granddaughter her own Switch. The first thing she showed me this morning was a sheep named Wendy that came to her island. lol. I mean baa 🐑

VJ, you forgot Steve’s hometown, he is from Las Vegas, Nevada. Speaking of today’s winner Steve, it was a difficult game material. Allie was doing well she had 9,200 but then she lost all of that to drop all the way down to 600. We’ll hope for a better material tomorrow and we will see Zach in the next TOC along with Brian
