WHAT IS IMPRESSIONIST?

BBC Introducing Art has an article relating the vital role Paul Durand-Ruel played in supporting the Impressionists. Finding a European market took a long time. In 1896 “Berlin’s Nationalgalerie became the first public institution to buy an Impressionist painting (The Mill on the Couleuvre near Pontoise by Cezanne). Ironically, French museums lagged way behind. It wasn’t until 1901 that a French museum, the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Lyon (not Paris), finally bought an Impressionist – Woman Playing A Guitar by Renoir.”

In the last paragraph of the museum’s page on the painting, it says (in French) that it was purchased from gallery owner Durand-Ruel in 1901 and was the first impressionist painting to enter the museum’s collections.

Matt got it right. He bet $8,795 and brought his score up to $17,595.

Jamison went with cubist. He lost his $4,800 bet, leaving him with $4,400.

Karen got it, too. She bet $6,501 and won the game with $18,401. Her 2-day total is $35,601.

A great play by the contestants and Matt nearly had a lock on the game but was unable to be the new champion. Speaking of Cezanne, jumpstart advanced 3rd grade mystery mountain had an art gallery and a painting from him. Also VJ have you visited any art.museums and found Cezanne paintings in the impressionist era? Congrats to Karen on her win

Yes, Lou, we saw an exhibit at the Fine Arts Museum down here some years ago that included some of the impressionist.

I really didn’t like that Ghost-ted category today. I’d rather hear Alex read rap lyrics than that.
